Motorcycle Diaries, The

last saturday, i finally got down to watch "the motorcycle diaries", a spanish movie (with subtitles)... and have been talking to everyone about it since... must admit its one brilliant movie... never thought that a spanish movie would make it to the top of my most favourite movie list (as opposed to an english or hindi movie)...

foreign language movies never appealed to me, but after saturday, the world suddenly seemed that much bigger... it has just added to my space of "interesting but never thought about"..

the movie is about 2 guys in their mid twenties, taking a break from their careers and traversing the south american continent on a 1939 Norton... and it was quite a ride... they move across argentina, chile, peru, columbia and try and get a pulse of what the land and its people are all about... initially it all seems like a different civilization every time and as a very different people all together... but slowly they stop looking at it as tourists and get involved in whatever the people there were doing and realise that they had more in common than just spanish... the movie is all about the spirit of south america and the common problems amd issues they face...

at the end of the movie, it suddenly dawns on you that it was never about the bike ride at all... the movie takes on a much larger meaning... thats when it goes from good to classic...
